It's my birthday and for my birthday we will be talking about my favorite crystal, Citrine! It was the first crystal I received, a gift for my birthday, and the first one I looked up the metaphysical properties of. It was something I needed at the time without even realizing it. I have been attracted to the beautiful yellow/orange colors ever since. It is like a sunflower in the form of a crystal!
Citrine is a variety of quartz. It gets its name from a French word meaning lemon or from the Latin word "citrina" or "citrinus" which means yellow. Its color ranges from pale yellow to brown due to iron impurities. Natural citrines are rare; most commercial citrines are heat-treated amethysts or smoky quartzes. It has a Mohs Harness of 7. It is November's birthstone, along with Topaz.
Chakra: All chakras, but especially Solar Plexus
Zodiac: Aries, Gemini, Libra, and Leo
Element: Fire
Planet: Sun
Care: It can be placed in water, but should not be placed in direct sunlight for very long. It can fade the color or even set things on fire. It should not be exposed to extreme heat changes as it can cause cracking. Cleansing can be done with smoke, selenite, sound, running water, and soil.
When it comes to metaphysical properties, some people will only use natural citrine as opposed to the commercial kind. I am here to tell you that it is the same thing, just made differently. Whether it is heated in the Earth or heated in an oven to make its beautiful golden color, it is still citrine and both will provide the same properties.
In the 1700s, Scottish weapon smiths used Citrine to adorn the daggers of warriors as it was believed to boost courage and luck. It was also widely used to adorn Scottish kilt pins.
It is used as a talisman against evil thoughts and overindulgence. Citrine has been referred to as the "merchant's stone" or "money stone", due to a superstition that it would bring prosperity. Many people believe it is a gift from the sun! It is a stone of happiness, joy, sunshine, light, and life. It promotes joy, optimism, and abundance. It wards off depression, stress, and general unhappiness. It helps you adjust and adapt to changes, boosts self-esteem, and helps eliminate fears of all sorts. It helps with blood flow and circulation. It has the power to move stale energy, bring about your heart's true desires, and increase prosperity, success, manifestation, personal will, and creativity. It also has the ability to help you say "NO" if you normally cannot assert yourself.
To attract prosperity, place a Citrine crystal in your cash box or carry a small piece with you in your wallet to limit spending money recklessly.
You can also place a Citrine crystal in the "prosperity corner" of your home or in every room. In western Feng Shui, this corner is located in the back left corner of any room (while facing the room from the front door).
