Soapstone

Soapstone is also known as Steatite or Soap Rock. It is a metamorphic rock that consists primarily of talc. Depending on the quarry from which it is sourced, this natural stone also contains varying amounts of other minerals such as micas, chlorite, amphiboles, quartz, magnesite, and carbonates. It gets its name because of its softness and "soapy" feel. It is a relatively soft, very dense, highly heat-resistant material. Soapstone’s soft-rated hardness makes it a wonderful crystal material to work into a carving or ornamental sculpture piece. It comes in a variety of colors from soft beautiful shades of green, white, and grey to more intense reds, browns, and black. Unfortunately, fake soapstone comes from numerous sources. Currently, there are several forms of slates and marbles being falsely advertised as soapstone. Real soapstone is inert to acids, chemicals, and heat, which means that it will not stain, burn, or be harmed by acids. It is commonly used for kitchen and bar counters, tile, sinks, cookware, tubs, fireplaces, and woodstoves. In addition to practical daily use, soapstone has long been used to create stunning sculptures, for example, the outer layers of the Christ the Redeemer sculpture in Rio de Janeiro are made of soapstone.

Soapstone gives a soothing and balancing effect while creating a positive and calming energy. It gives when you are going through changes in life. Soapstone’s energies are helpful for getting you moving and ready for whatever comes next. It is peaceful and helps release outdated patterns and negative habits. It gives you opportunities for new possibilities. It is also thought to promote truth, logic as well and rational and creative thinking. It is a stone of manifestation allowing you to literally carve out your imagination, intentions, and totems. Its energies are supportive of new adventures and new opportunities. Soapstone may be used to stabilize electricity in the atmosphere and to eliminate signal interference. It is connected to the Crown, Heart, and Root chakra and is associated with the zodiac Sagittarius.
